The redevelopment of the Department of Lands and Department of Education buildings ("The Sandstones") is an iconic and important development within Sydney. It provides physical connectivity from Circular Quay to the commercial core of the Sydney CBD as well as preserving links to Sydney's heritage.
This project involves the adaptive reuse of the Heritage Listed buildings located on Bridge Street in Sydney. The project will see these impressive buildings given new life as a 192-room luxury hotel. Pontiac have commenced a design process to masterfully restore these two buildings into a world-class luxury hotel due to open in 2022.
A roof top extension to the Education building will see this building house 192 rooms with internal pool, spa and gym facilities. The lands building will feature food and beverage, social and club spaces, ballroom and event rooms and new roof terraces.
The buildings have been leased by Pontiac from Property NSW and a Stage 2 DA was approved in April 2019. The redevelopment is expected to cost in the order of $300 million and is on track for completion in April 2022.
