On 23 June, Essence Directors, David Nicholas, David Radford, and Andrew Borthwick slept outside as part of an eye-opening experience to raise awareness and bring home the realities of homelessness.

Despite being one of the wealthiest countries in the world, one in six Australians is experiencing food insecurity and every night more than 100,000 people are homeless. The pandemic has only exacerbated the accessibility and availability of housing for those on the margins.

With rental accommodation in a supply crisis, surging inflation, domestic violence and mental health issues on the increase, homelessness is getting worse and it can happen to anyone. $50 helps feed a family for a day and $300 will help relocate a person sleeping rough to accommodation services.

The CEO Sleepout is over for another year, but the homeless crisis has not gone away. Food and shelter are the most basic of human needs and together we can help those that have hit hard times. For more information, visit ceosleepout.org.au
